What is The Japan Society for Cult Prevention and Recovery :JSCPR ?

JSCPR (JSCPR was changed) was established in Nov. 1995. When Japanese Police investigated AUM Shinrikyo forcibly in March 1995, we first realized necessity to study their abnormal behaviors of the Guru Shoko Asahara and incomprehensive lives of their believers. Their strange behaviors were explained with the general concept 'mind control'. Also, we were very surprised that many 'elites' were included in the illegal performers for actualizing the Guru's idea.

There are groups of which members conceal their true purpose of recruiting targets, of which members make the target's mind become unstable, discard common sense and take any action in accordance with only the logic of the group. We call this kind of the groups destructive cult．

We must be against their such activities by cooperating with many kinds of people such as academic researchers ,counselors, journalists, jurist, churchman, cult member's families and cult former members.

In the case of AUM, parents, who worried to their children who had become a member, organized 'the parents group'. The group had been supported by some professional advisers such as exit counselors before JSCPR establishment. When the series of AUM crime appeared , they developed into the organization JSCPR for the purpose of their information exchange in November, 1995.

The purpose of this research council is to study cult activities, to exchange information of cult, to pursue more excellent techniques for exit counseling. As the result of their efforts, we do hope the anti-social behaviors will be eliminated in our society.
